In Kansas City, MO, finding a good slice of pie is as easy as — well, you know. Whether you prefer sweet or savory, we want to help you find a bakery serving the perfect pie for you in the Kansas City area. Here are a few places you should try:

Ashleigh’s Bake Shop

Ashleigh’s Bake Shop, located in the Westport neighborhood, has a true passion for pie. This beloved bakery makes an all-butter crust and bakes each pie fresh every morning. The bake shop uses the highest-quality ingredients in its pies, including freshly whipped cream, hand-peeled apples, and real vanilla and butter. You won’t find shortcut ingredients like lard or shortening in a single pie.

The bakery offers about 10 to 15 flavors of pie each day, including favorites like cherry, peach, and raspberry rhubarb. Some pies, such as strawberry rhubarb, are seasonal and dependent on the available produce. Many pies come with a mouthwatering brown sugar or almond crumble, including apple, blueberry basil goat cheese, peach, and blueberry. This small, locally owned bakery makes pies in small batches, so you won’t find every flavor on the menu each time you visit. You can call ahead to learn the day’s flavors or special order a pie 48 hours in advance.

In addition to its extensive pie menu, Ashleigh’s Bake Shop makes a variety of fresh quiches each day. Quiche flavors include bacon and leek, spinach and bacon, and sweet corn and roasted poblano, which comes with or without bacon. The bakery also serves salted caramel sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and pecan bars.

Location: 115 Westport Road, Kansas City, Missouri.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (items frequently sell out, so arrive early if you can).

The Upper Crust

Make the short drive across the state line for a slice of pie at The Upper Crust in Overland Park, Kansas. This family-owned pie bakery opened in 2005 to bring the taste of real pie to the Midwest. At The Upper Crust, you can purchase 9-inch whole pies or 5-inch “cutie pies,” along with pies by the slice. The bakery may sell out of a flavor, so arrive early in the day to ensure you can get the pie you want.

The Upper Crust offers a wide-ranging pie menu, though not every flavor may be available each day. Favorites include chocolate cream, peach blackberry, apple crumb, peanut butter, and German chocolate. The bakery also serves unique pies you may not find elsewhere, such as brown sugar buttermilk or oatmeal. Besides pie, other yummy items on the menu include molasses crinkle cookies, coconut macaroon cookies, and salted caramel pecan bars.

On the third Friday of each month, you can preorder a pie flight from The Upper Crust. You get three slices of pie in each flight. Flavors vary each month, and there are no substitutions allowed. Pick one up to reward yourself with a sweet treat at the end of a long week.

Location: 7943 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, Kansas.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Sweet Tea Pie Company

The next time you need a pie for a holiday, event, or gathering, consider Sweet Tea Pie Company. This business, launched in 2020, makes pies for weekly presale orders and pop-ups. The menu continues to expand with creative sweet and savory items to please various palates.

The Sweet Tea Pie Company menu features both pies and take-and-bake pot pies. They come in unique flavors, such as the Gin and Key Lime Pie made with a gingersnap, pretzel crust and a punch of gin topped with whipped cream. If you prefer to eat your pie as a meal, try the Hard Cider Braised Poblano and Lime Chicken Pot Pie. It features hard cider-braised chicken in a house made guajillo chili pepper and lime rub with peppers and cheese on an all-butter crust.

For those who can’t get enough pie, you can purchase a six- or 12-month subscription to Sweet Tea Pie Company’s Pie of the Month Club. Each month, you’ll get one pie or take-and-bake pot pie of your choice. It’s the perfect way to ensure you always have enough pie on hand, though can you ever really have enough pie?

Hours: Pick up pies from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on your scheduled day.
