The 2022 Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry are four-door midsize sedans that are fuel efficient, great looking, and loaded with the latest interior and safety technologies. Engine Options

The Altima has three available engines, while the Camry has five. The engines available for the Altima are as follows:

  • 182-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 188-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 236-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (gasoline).

The average gas mileage for the Nissan Altima is 28 mg city/39 mpg highway.

The engines available for the Camry include the following:

  • 202-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 203-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 205-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 206-horsepower. 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (gasoline).
  • 301-horsepower, 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine (gasoline).

The average gas mileage for the standard gasoline engine for the Camry is 28 mpg city/39 mpg highway.

The Altima features a continuously variable transmission, and the Camry has an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available on both cars.

The Toyota Camry features a hybrid option, but there’s currently no hybrid version for the Altima.

Base Model Options

The base models for the 2022 Nissan Altima and the 2022 Toyota Camry provide a starting point for comparisons. Options for both cars can vary greatly at similar price points and can skew the comparison.

Nissan Altima

The S trim level features a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, a 60/40-split fold-down rear seat, and cloth seat trim. It features a spacious rear seating area with plenty of legroom for taller adults. The Altima’s tilt/telescoping steering wheel features multiple controls, including phone calls, radio, cruise control, and more. Carbon fiber-style covers are located throughout the interior for a sporty appearance. The HVAC, infotainment system, and shifter retain their knobs and buttons for tactile contact and ease of use while driving.

Toyota Camry

The LE trim comes with fabric-trimmed front seats with a passenger-side seatback pocket, an eight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and a six-way manually adjustable passenger seat. The steering wheel consists of a leather-trimmed tilt/telescope wheel with audio, a multi-information display, hands-free phone command, and safety controls. A rear-window defogger and timer are standard, as are power windows with auto up/down.

Interior Details

The interior of both models can comfortably seat five adults. Both vehicles feature 60/40-split fold-down rear seats to extend the cargo space. The Altima has an interior passenger volume of 100.6 cubic feet and a cargo capacity of 15.4 cubic feet. The Toyota Camry has a total interior passenger volume of 100.4 cubic feet and a cargo volume of 15.1 cubic feet.

Both the Altima and Camry offer fabric and synthetic leather interiors at the base model level and leather-trimmed seats on higher trim levels. The Altima features contrasting stitching on the interior seating and dashboard, giving it a more defined look.

Altima Infotainment System

The infotainment system in the Altima features a 7-inch touch-screen display on the base model and an 8-inch display on all other trim levels. The larger display comes with NissanConnect, which turns the infotainment system into a connected experience for the driver with an information display between analog dials on the dashboard. The Altima features two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice recognition. The infotainment system is connected to the backup camera and displays a real-time image of what’s behind the car.

Camry Infotainment System

The Toyota Camry features a 7-inch multimedia touch screen with turn-by-turn navigation, safety information, and alerts. A USB port and 12-volt auxiliary port are standard, as is Bluetooth connectivity and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also features satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. The infotainment system works with a 4.2-inch TFT information display for the driver that delivers real-time information about the car’s performance.

Both Nissan and Toyota have made advances in automotive safety with innovative safety suites that aid the driver, which makes driving safer and greatly reduces the risk of a collision.

Altima
